This composition draws inspiration from Ming Dynasty ceramics featuring fish motifs — known for their auspicious connotations in classical Chinese art.
Nine koi swim upward through curling waves, playfully animated yet deeply symbolic. In traditional numerology, "nine" is the number of longevity and harmony, while "fish" (koi) evoke abundance, perseverance, and prosperity.
The lotus blossom, often associated with purity and noble character, grounds the piece with calm elegance. Together, the visual narrative speaks of hope, success, and peace — a perfect talisman for the home or office.

🧵 Craftsmanship & Ingredients
Each koi and water ripple is woven thread-by-thread, not painted, using dyed silk yarns in gradated tones. The texture and depth of the koi scales are built through layered passes of metallic threadwork and silk fiber tension control.
This work was created using double shuttle weaving techniques, a method preserved by a small number of trained heritage artisans in Nanjing.
