Peacock Feather Weaving Patented by Yongle Emperor’s Workshops (1420)
2,400 Threads/cm² via ‘Flying Claw’ Technique
84 Days of 5-Hour ‘Dragon Pulse’ Weaving Sessions"
This design revives a Ming Dynasty-era pattern once used on royal insignias. A dynamic dragon spirals upward, reaching toward the flaming pearl — a symbol of wisdom and power — while riding on colorful auspicious clouds above crashing sea cliffs (known as jiangya haisui in classical Chinese symbolism).
In Chinese culture, the dragon represents supreme authority, protection, and prosperity, while the surrounding sea waves and rocky cliffs stand for enduring strength and harmony. This framed piece is not merely decorative — it's a visual prayer for peace, continuity, and sovereign grace.
The dragon and clouds are woven using Yunjin brocade, one of China’s most complex textile techniques. Over 10 types of threads — including peacock feather filaments — are woven into a single layer, using a dual-operator loom.
Gold thread adds shimmer and depth, while each curve of the dragon’s body is enhanced through tension-controlled weaving. The placement follows strict historical formulae, ensuring both spiritual alignment and visual harmony.
This piece reflects hundreds of hours of skilled labor, passed down through master-apprentice lineage at the Nanjing Yunjin Institute.
Crafted by the Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Research Institute, this piece represents a full revival of ancient court textile logic. From loom setting to thread tension to final mounting, each step is handled by artisans specialized in state-protected intangible heritage methods.
This wall piece is not a reproduction — it is a living tradition framed.
Rooted in Imperial Weaving Legacy
Yunjin brocade is internationally recognized as one of the finest textile arts in human history. Requiring two weavers per loom and dozens of techniques for color, texture, and structure, it served as the fabric of emperors.
In 2009, Yunjin weaving was officially inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
